When I left for the software architecture workshop in Cortina I was kind of tired, empty of ideas and badly in need of inspiration. Now I'm back and everything has changed. What a great workshop!

I'm going to post more later, but for now I'd like to mention a few of the highlights:

  • Martin Fowler presented his latest piece on Event patterns and there was also a very interesting discussion. I think my next project will use some of these explicitly.
  • Charles Simonyi from Intentional Software presented and showed a demo of what could very well be the next big thing, namely their system. Again, loads of discussion. This was probably the first time they have shown anything without requiring a heavy NDA.
  • Dan North discussed Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) a lot which is definitely something I'll be trying out soon. To describe it in a single sentence, it seems to be a good way of tying the requirements to the development, in a simple, yet efficient way.

That said, as always the best part is the people and I had such a great time hanging out with everyone who came!

More later...
